Tear Gas Used on Occupy Oakland Protesters
“Oakland has temporarily taken the spotlight away from Wall Street as the Occupy Oakland protestors were confronted by heavy-handed police on Tuesday and Wednesday, in Oakland California. Clad with riot gear, Oakland police launched cans of tear gas into the crowd of protesters. This raid happened around 5 or 6 a.m. when police attempted to shut down the Occupy Oakland’s encampment in the city park. The actions were approved by the city’s mayor. One report says that over 500 Oakland police were involved in the raid. One video shows an Oakland police officer saying the raid was in response to an “illegal encampment of the park,” named as violation 647E.”
